The first foursome -  the stage of arising

Aries
Aries is a Fire Sign. In its outward focus, we can recognize the following core concepts: the explosive germinating power of the seed, the start-up impulse which is quickly exhausted because of a limited supply of storage food; all that is fresh, cheeky, young and new; breaking new ground and untrodden roads, the purely individual nature of this impulse which is blind to the initiatives of others, spontaneity, being oneself, the spirit of the pioneer, initiative, freedom in action and decisive action. If one sheep leaps over the ditch, the rest will follow: “I attack, follow me!”

Taurus
In the next stage, the seed falls somewhere on the ground. Which may be anywhere. It does not search for a suitable spot but just ends up somewhere. If that is a puddle of water, or bare rock, that’s the end of it. Or it can serve as food for birds and be carried far away. But it can also fall into fertile soil.
Taurus is an Earth Sign. In its inward focus, we can recognize the following core concepts:
Passivity, receptivity, fertility, loyalty, trust, patience, buffer and supply, matter and possessions, including intellectual and spiritual property; surrender and the power of endurance. Taurus is like a flywheel: it takes a lot of energy to start moving, giving the impression of slowness, but once it is set in motion, this heavy flywheel is not easily stopped. Taurus persists where others have given up long ago.

Gemini
Once it finds itself in the soil, the seed starts to germinate. First it grows tiny, threadlike roots that seek their way deeper into the earth.
Gemini is an Air Sign. In its outward focus, we can recognize the following core concepts:
contact, first explorations, brothers and sisters, neighbors, connections, primary school, inquisitiveness and curiosity, being unprejudiced, exchange, trade, short trips, light-heartedness. Gemini is reputed to be superficial as well as brilliant.

Cancer
Through the tiny roots, moisture and dissolved nutrients are now sucked up. The seed assimilates these initially outside elements and starts to swell up.
Cancer is a Water Sign. In its inward focus, we can recognize the following core concepts:
assimilation, sucking, nourishment, the non-familiar becomes familiar, internalizing, memory, collecting, archive, holding onto, childhood and background, the subconscious, family connections and traditions, the past, attachment, emotion, growth through experience.

No intention, no limit
These first four Signs are characterized by their spontaneous, unfocused attitude that does not differentiate or filter. The seed does not carefully choose the spot where it will germinate but just starts somewhere. The soil does not select which seed will get a chance and which will not – it just makes itself available. The tiny roots then thread their way into the soil in an unfocused way, enabling the seed to suck up anything it can assimilate. There is no restriction and no intention.
